According to the mover of the motion, Sergoit MCA David Keitany, the exercise will be suspended until public participation has been conducted and approved by the Uasin Gishu County Assembly.
Langas MCA Francis Muya, who seconded the motion, said the current land assessment roll does not take into account subdivisions of land by original owners.
“The assessment roll which is under investigation as we speak to county seat does not capture the real picture of Eldoret Municipality as most of the plots have been omitted,” Muya said. .
He reiterated that public participation must first occur before any exercise is conducted as required by law.
MCA named Leah Mallot, who backed the motion, said the new assessment roll would raise property rates to a level that is not affordable for the public.
Kimumu MCA Sarah Malel who presided over the session as temporary chair ordered that the House resolution be implemented.
âThis county assembly urges the Uasin Gishu County government through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to organize public participation for residents to understand before starting the process,â said Malel.
